Tuesday 21 November 2023 Girls' Netball On Tuesday 21st November, our Girls' Netball team played at home against Kents Hill. This was our first league match of the year and a first match for the majority of the team. The girls showed excellent resilience and determination throughout the match. The final score was 9-2 to Kents Hill. The two scorers for Hadleigh were Phoebe and Hallie. Well done to Lola, Hallie, Lily, Florence, Emily, Phoebe and Madison for representing our school so well. Thank you to Mrs Cocks for helping to prepare the team and for umpiring the match.

Friday 17 November 2023 Year 5 art project The Year 5s who did not attend the Danbury residential had a great time this week working on a special art project with Mrs Pearson and Mrs Blowes. The children used newspaper and wire and modroc to create imaginary dragon sculptures. They then painted their models. I'm sure you'll agree the final pieces are quite something!

Friday 17 November 2023 Year 4 Christmas show prop making Thank you to the parents/family members who were able to join Year 4 for their parental engagement project on Thursday. Great fun was had by all, as the children and adults made props for the upcoming Year 4 Christmas show. We've nearly cleaned up all the glitter!

Friday 20 October 2023 Year 4 Roman Workshop On Tuesday morning, Year 4 were visited by a Roman soldier called Lucius Felix Septimus. The children were shown his Roman army armour and weapons and some even got the chance to try on some of the equipment. They had the chance to take part in a simulation of a battle between Romans and Barbarians and when the Romans won, the Barbarians became slaves preparing and serving food for a Roman banquet. All of the children had a great morning and learnt lots of new information about Ancient Rome.

Friday 20 October 2023 Year 5 Road Safety Workshop This week, Year 5 has had their Road Safety walks. They showed great curiosity asking Lesley lots of fantastic questions to help keep themselves safe on the roads. They also went out in small groups, to identify hazards they may come across when walking.

Friday 6 October 2023 SEEAT shortlisted for a national award SEEAT have been shortlisted for a national award for the second year running: the Multi-Academy Trust of the Year Award at the National Schools Awards 2023. This award celebrates a Multi-Academy Trust that has successfully turned around their schools or has managed to grow whilst maintaining or increasing positive pupil outcomes, using innovation and imagination to improve their schools. We are not a large trust but we regularly ‘punch above our weight’ and just to be shortlisted is a privilege. The winner will be announced on 7th December.

Thursday 5 October 2023 A win for our mixed football team Well done to our mixed football team, who won the first league match of the season 11-0 v Jotmans on Thursday. The team displayed some excellent passing and incredible goals. However, the most impressive aspect of the game was the respectful attitude shown throughout the match by all players.

Tuesday 5 September 2023 Music Mark 2023-24 We're pleased to announce that we have once again achieved the Music Mark. We are very proud of our music curriculum and all the extra-curricular opportunities we offer our children. A special thank you to Mrs Hutton for all she does as our Music Leader.

Thursday 20 July 2023 Year 4 art at Hadleigh Castle Year 4 art lessons over the past few weeks have looked at some famous images of the castle, including a very famous painting by John Constable. Therefore, on Thursday, Year 4 spent the morning at Hadleigh Castle. They spent the first session creating their own masterpiece sketches of the castle. After that, the children created their own maps of the castle site. Finally, the children enjoyed a picnic, eating the healthy wraps which they had made in class the day before. Everybody had a really lovely morning and all children represented our school excellently.

Tuesday 18 July 2023 Inflatables day for Year 6 On Monday, the Year 6 children had a fantastic day on the field playing on huge inflatables. They raced through a crazy obstacle course, tackled a giant slide and kicked footballs at the most enormous target they had ever seen, as well as enjoying a basketball station, coconut shy and cactus throwing game. They also played a nine hole crazy golf game which was surprisingly challenging! Thanks to all the adults involved in organising this brilliant fun day for the children.

Friday 14 July 2023 French café experience for year 5 On Wednesday afternoon, 7 Year 9 and 2 Year 12 students of French from the King John School visited Class 7 accompanied by Head of French, Madame Carter,. The students helped with our French café: they practised a café conversation with the children and acted as café staff before being served by Class 7 children - all in French, of course! The Year 12 students who are studying A level French spoke a little about their journey as linguists. It was an enriching and inspiring afternoon.

Tuesday 4 July 2023 Eco Team's home-grown vegetables A huge thank you and well done to our Eco Team for growing cabbage and peas for the school kitchen. We were very pleased to add the home-grown food to our salad bar this week.

Thursday 22 June 2023 Lesson from the House of Lords This week Year 3 took part in an online session with Baroness Bennett, who is a member of the House of Lords. She spoke about her work, how the House of Lords is organised and her work on climate change through the Green Party. It was an interesting session where the children asked some well thought out questions and were extremely well-behaved.

Friday 16 June 2023 Class 2's Assembly Well done to class 2 for a brilliant assembly showing how they have developed their growth mindset whilst they have been at the Juniors. They confidently shared work in maths,English, history, art plus some PE skills. They sang about the Ancient Egyptians and how they Never, Ever Give Up, a motto used frequently in lesson.

Friday 16 June 2023 Mr Brierley's charity skydive update Thank very much to everyone that cheered me on and wished me good luck before my skydive last weekend. I'm really grateful for your support and am thrilled to reveal that we managed to raise £1259 for Brain Tumour Research. The jump was an extraordinary and exhilarating experience - I loved every second and am already working on ways to be able to do it again!

Thursday 15 June 2023 Assembly with Haq from Southend Mosque On Wednesday 14th June, Year 6 enjoyed a talk with Haq, from Southend Mosque. He talked about the Five Pillars of Islam, sharing his personal experiences of how these principles guide his life. He showed his prayer mat and his personal copy of the Qa'ran. He also kindly donated a copy of the Qa'ran to the school to assist our studies in future years. The children thoroughly enjoyed his visit, and we are grateful to Haq for enriching their RE education.

Friday 9 June 2023 Mock Election Week It's been a busy week at HJS with our mock election week with six Year 6 candidates running to be Headteacher for the day. It started on Monday with Lewis, Emily, Dolcie, Erin, Finley and Charlie delivering their speeches in assembly. This was followed by canvassing for votes on the playground and designing some of the most creative and eye-catching posters we've ever had. On Thursday, everyone in the school had the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidate at our polling station. This ran smoothly due to the well prepared and organised Year 5 School Parliament members.

Thursday 25 May 2023 Year 5 silent protest On Thursday Year 5 lead an emotive silent protest on the playground, with parents/carers spectating.

Monday 22 May 2023 Winners of the SUFC Cup at Roots HallĀ The boys' football team only went and won the SUFC Cup at Roots Hall on Thursday, completing a league and cup treble for the season. We have been in this final four years in a row, but we have lost the last two by slim margins, but this year the team have returned the trophy to HJS and they did so in style.

Wednesday 17 May 2023 Class 3's Assembly Well done to Class 3 for a brilliantly presented class assembly. The children confidently shared what it is like to experience a day in Year 3. The audience were treated to two joyful songs along with excellent writing and art work, with some PE demonstrations as well.
