MUSIC CLUBS AND

INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS

There are many extra opportunities for children to enjoy music outside of lesson times at Hadleigh Junior School. These include choirs, orchestra, and instrumental lessons. Please speak to Mrs Hutton on Wednesdays or Thursdays, or call in at the school office if you have any enquiries.

Lower School Choir

Wednesdays at 12.10 - for all year 3 and 4 pupils. We rehearse a variety of songs, traditional and modern including children's favourites like songs from the Disney movies.

No audition is required. Pupils only need to commit to attending weekly rehearsals and learning their words for concerts.

We usually perform for parents at least once a term and often in assembly to build up our singers’ confidence. Already this school year we have sung at St James The Less Church and at a combined concert with the Hadleigh Community Brass Project at the Salvation Army Citadel.

Upper School Choir

Thursdays at 12.10 - for all year 5 and 6 pupils.

We rehearse a wide repertoire of songs, some of which are pupils' choice. One of the most exciting things about Upper School Choir is that pupils begin to sing more challenging songs including developing their music skills by learning to sing in harmony and sometimes taking solos.

No audition is required. Pupils only need to commit to attending weekly rehearsals and learning their words for concerts.

We usually perform for parents at least once a term and often in assembly to build up our singers’ confidence. Already this year we have sung at St James The Less Church and at the combined concert with the Hadleigh Community Brass Project and are looking forward to performing at both the Palace Theatre and The Cliffs Pavilion later this year.

Orchestra

Meets on Thursdays at 3.20 until 4.15.

Children who are learning an orchestral instrument (flute, clarinet, trumpet, violin etc.) at school or home are invited to attend orchestra as soon as they reach an appropriate standard.

Other orchestra members play glockenspiels, xylophones and some percussion provided by the school. Pupils need to be able to read basic musical notation and will have a very short informal audition in order to be invited to join, as numbers for these instruments are limited.

Please apply to Mrs Hutton via the school office if you would like your child to be considered for a place in the orchestra.

We usually perform at least once a term, and in music assemblies. Already this year we have accompanied the carols at St James The Less Church and St Barnabus Churches and at the combined concert with the Hadleigh Community Brass Project, and are looking forward to performing at both the Palace Theatre and The Cliffs Pavilion later this year.

The Hadleigh Community Brass Project

Meets on Wednesdays after school.

This a fantastic opportunity provided by musicians from our local Salvation Army to whom we are very grateful.

Pupils are provided with brass instruments and given lessons on their instruments and in music theory. They also meet up together for a band practise and refreshments towards the end of each session.

  1. you would like your child be a part of this wonderful opportunity please ask them to speak to Mrs Hutton for more information.
